Exposition makes me sleepy too…
Mikie’s Uncle George was my first Original Character (that stuck) way back in 1989. It all started with him. For years at the time, I’d struggled with creating something of my very own. Even though I’d blatantly steal gags from comic strips, I never really put much effort into drawing characters that weren’t my own. Of course, the Beoples were derivative of things I loved. I’m not claiming they’re 100% unique. But they were different enough to be MINE, and George was the first one I drew over and over. Most of the ideas I came up with back then carried over into Levi’s World, so in a way it all lives on… or it’s just a testament to how I can’t think of anything better than I did when I was 12.
